Barbara (Barb) Jean Uehling, 83, of Martinsburg, NE went to her Heavenly home on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2024 after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2024 at Trinity Lutheran church in Martinsburg. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., and the service begins at 11 a.m. Lunch will be served afterward, with a private burial at Logan Park Cemetery at a later date. Memorials are suggested to be made to the family for a future designation. Arrangements are being made under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service.

Barbara Jean (Jasman) Uehling was born on Dec. 22, 1940 in Sioux City, to Arnold P. Jasman Sr. and Georgia Alma (Brown) Jasman. She was one of four children: Marylee, Arnold Jr., and Carolyn Ann Jasman (who died in infancy). She was raised in Sioux City, Iowa and graduated from East High School in 1958.

On Sept. 12, 1959, Barb was united in marriage with Gary Uehling, Sr. of Sioux City. They welcomed three children, Gary Jr., Kristine, and Debra into their lives.

Barb worked as a supervisor at Zenith in Sioux City for nearly 20 years. After Zenith closed their doors, she became an apprentice/journeyman in the Painters’ Union.

In 1980, Gary and Barb moved their family to Martinsburg, where they purchased a farm, grew crops, raised bucket calves and feeder pigs. In addition to managing the day-to-day farming activities, Barb became a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) where her genuine care and interest in others were exemplified in her work. She built many relationships with numerous individuals in her care and really enjoyed her work as a CNA. After she retired, Barb continued to help others by driving them to their doctor’s appointments, making meals, or just spending time with them.

She additionally enjoyed camping, and Gary and her were members of the Good Sam Club. Their camping chapter raised money for Dogs for the Deaf organization, and their group was often the top donors for this worthwhile organization. Barb also loved visiting her grandchildren and attending their numerous sporting activities, often traveling long distances to wherever the sport event was being held. She was always the loudest cheerleader in the stand and would give the “best advice” on how the sport should be played. She was so proud of all her grandchildren!

Barb is survived by her husband of almost 65 years, Gary Sr., her children, Gary (Diane) Uehling Jr., of Litchfield, IL; Kristine Archuleta of Eloy, AZ; and Debra (Rob) Braun of Omaha, NE; grandchildren, Laura Archuleta, Brittany and Blake Uehling, Grant, Claire and AJ Braun.
