Enid Lorraine Petersen, the daughter of John and Blanche (Schmidt) Neal, was born on March 6, 1924, in Spring Valley Township, Iowa. She grew up in rural Moorhead, Iowa, and received her education from Moorhead High School, graduating with the class of 1941. After high school Enid attended Morningside College, where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music. While attending college she was inducted into the Mu Phi Epsilon music honor society.

After graduating from college in 1945, Enid began her teaching career in Hornick, Iowa. She later moved on to teach vocal music and English at Anthon and Anthon-Oto. On July 17, 1949, Enid was united in marriage to Robert Petersen. They were blessed with three children: Scott, Alan, and Lori. The couple raised their family on the farm near Anthon, Iowa. While her children were small, Enid took a break from teaching but returned when they were old enough to start school.

In 1981 Enid attended the Word Processing Program at Western Iowa Tech Community College. Upon completion of the program, she was offered a position at WITCC as an Assistant Word Processing Manager. She was employed in this position for 24 years until her retirement in 2006.

Enid had a profound love for music. She was very musically inclined, playing not only the piano but the violin and clarinet. Over the years she taught piano lessons to hundreds of children as well as giving clarinet lessons. During the summer, Enid could be found tending to her garden and large strawberry bed. She was an active member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church-Midway where she taught Sunday school, was a substitute organist, and member of the Ladies Aid. Enid was also an avid card player; her specialty playing Bridge with the many card clubs to which she belonged. Enid treasured time spent with her family and was an involved and supportive grandmother. She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.

Left to cherish her memory include her children Scott (Priscilla) Petersen of Independence, Kansas, Alan (AJ) Petersen of Anthon, Iowa, Lori (Mitch) Gates of Albuquerque, New Mexico; grandchildren Alex Petersen of Independence, Kansas, April Petersen of Essex Junction, Vermont, Jeremy Petersen of Hinesville, Georgia, Robert Petersen of West Lafayette, Indiana, Emily Gates of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Ian Gates of Layton, Utah; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Blanche and John Neal; husband Robert Petersen; brother Clair (Maxine) Neal; sisters Lucille (Harold Ellis) (John) Mugge; Louise (Melvin) Thorson; Edith Neal, and Virginia Neal.
