Patricia Ann Olson, of Sioux City and formerly of Elk Point and Vermillion, S.D., passed away early Thursday, June 27, 2024, at her home. She was 80 years of age.

Services will be at. 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, rural Elk Point, S.D. The Rev. David Bentz will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Paul Church Cemetery.

Visitation with family present will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, July 1, at the Kober Funeral Home in Elk Point, S.D. The prayer service will be at 7 p.m.

Patricia Ann Olson was born Nov. 1, 1943, at Vermillion, S.D., to Philip and Mildred (Halderson) Ofstehage. She grew up on the family farm in rural Union County, S.D., and received her elementary education at the one-room Walnut Grove Country School. She began her first year of high school at Augustana Academy in Canton, S.D., but transferred to Vermillion High School later in the year. She then took one year off from her high school studies to undergo back surgery. She recovered from the surgery at home while in a cast for six months. She was blessed with loving care from her parents, siblings and extended family members.

Patricia graduated from Vermillion High School with the Class of 1962. She then attended the University of South Dakota at Vermillion for two years before accepting a position as a receptionist and insurance clerk at a Vermillion medical clinic.

Patricia was married to Glenn Olson on June 14, 1975, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, rural Elk Point. The couple lived in Vermillion until 1981 when they moved to her husband's parents' farm north of Burbank, S.D. After experiencing three consecutive harsh winters, Pat and Glenn and their sons, Gregory, age 5, and Douglas, six weeks, moved to Sioux City where her husband was employed at The Sioux City Journal.

Once in Sioux City, Pat became active in the Smith School PTA and the Hoover Middle School PTO and served as president of both organizations. Pat was employed as secretary of Immanuel Lutheran Church, now known as United Lutheran Church at West Third Street and Hamilton Boulevard, for 25 years. Pat also served as secretary at Mayflower Congregational Church for a brief time.

Pat was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where she served in several positions, including Sunday school superintendent, WELCA president and financial secretary. She was actively involved in serving the church's annual Lutefisk and Meatballs dinner.

Hobbies included doing Norwegian Hardanger and entering items in open classes at the Woodbury County Fair. She also enjoyed baking and decorating cakes.

Survivors include her husband, Glenn; sons, Gregory (Alisa) and Douglas, all of Sioux City; step-granddaughter, Anna Corderman, also of Sioux City; brother, Bernard (Glenda) Ofstehage of Vermillion, S.D.; sister, Marlene (John) Wilson of Charlotte, N.C.; nephews, Steven (Stacey) Ofstehage of Santa Fe, N.M., James (Heather) Ofstehage of Prior Lake, Minn., Peter (Dawna) Ofstehage of Kansas City, Kan., and Andrew (Amanda) Ofstehage of Pittsboro, N.C.; niece, Ellen Ofstehage of Vermillion, S.D,; her late nephew's wife, Sarah Ofstehage of Watertown, S.D.; and her cousin's husband, Ron Minske of Mesa, Ariz.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Philip and Mildred Ofstehage; uncle, Robert (Norma) Ofstehage; aunts, Alice (Milton) Albin, Agnes Halderson, Irene (Sigvald) Sommervold, nephew, Pastor Daniel Ofstehage; her only first cousin, Mary Minske., and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gust and Olga Olson.
