Former Sioux City resident James M. (Jim) Galvin, 68, passed away on June 8 when the small airplane he was piloting crashed in Picacho Peak State Park near Tucson, Arizona. Jim was the eldest of seven children born to long-time Sioux City residents Cecil J. (Jim) and Marvellyn J. (Ossie) Galvin. A 1973 graduate of Heelan High School, he received an engineering degree from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff in 1983. Jim enjoyed a long, rewarding career in structural engineering in Arizona and Spokane, Washington.
Jim leaves behind his wife, Adrienne, of Oro Valley, AZ; two children, Kristine Galvin and Adam Galvin (and Jennifer), Tucson, AZ; grandchildren Wyatt and Grace Galvin (and their mother Katherine), Summerdale, AL; two brothers, Tim Galvin (and Karen), Bend, OR; Pat Galvin (and Susie), Houston, TX; four sisters, Mary Schield (and Kevin) of Sturgeon Bay, WI; Katie Galvin (and Steve Corner), Rochester, MN; Jeanne Galvin (and Ken LaFleur), Chandler, AZ; Karen Kruse, Davenport, IA; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, JJ.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Taylor Galvin, an Army Special Forces helicopter pilot who was killed in action in Iraq in 2018.
