South Sioux City - Died Sioux City

Carol Ann Campbell, 74, of South Sioux City, passed away on Friday, August 2, 2024, in Sioux City, Iowa. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Thursday, August 8, 2024, at River Hills Church in South Sioux City. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa. Visitation will be at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel (3220 Stone Park Boulevard) on Wednesday August 7, 2024, with family present at from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and a prayer service beginning at 6:00 PM.

Carol was a devoted Christian who had unwavering faith throughout her life. Through her courageous 7-year battle with cancer, she never doubted God's plans. Carol will always be remembered for her positive attitude and smiling face.

Carol was born on December 25, 1949, to Merrill "Hoppy" and Mollie L. (Jahnke) Downhour in Sioux City, Iowa. She graduated from South Sioux City High School with the class of 1968. Carol worked at Woolco in Sioux City where she met her future husband, Denny Campbell in 1968. After working at Woolco, she worked at Goodwill in South Sioux City, Nebraska. On July 13, 1989, Carol began her career at Walmart in South Sioux City, Nebraska where she worked for 28 years until she retired.

On July 29, 1972, Carol married the love of her life, Denny Campbell, in Elk Point, South Dakota.

Carol was a devoted and caring wife, mom, and grandma. She enjoyed camping and riding motorcycles with her husband, going to the casino with her partner-in-crime Marsha, and thrifting. Carol found her greatest joy in her family, especially hanging out with her grandkids. Carol spent one day a week for many years taking her grandkids on "Kids Night Out" which consisted of a shopping spree at Dollar Tree, going to the playground, and eating out at their favorite restaurant, McDonalds. Carol traveled many miles to watch her grandkids in all kinds of events, including basketball, dance, volleyball, softball, cheerleading, football, golf, and theater.

Carol was a member of River Hills Church in South Sioux City.

Carol is survived by her sons Kirk (Angie) Campbell of Sioux City, Iowa and Todd "TJ" (Jessi) Campbell of Lebanon, Missouri; and grandkids Aspen Campbell, Autumn Campbell, Faith (Samson) Cochran, Kara (John) Shumate, Kirsten Campbell, and Andrew Campbell, and her sisters Donna Cook of Derby, Kansas and Connie Ford of Omaha, Nebraska.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Patti Bennett, as well as her husband of almost 45 years.
