John Gary Krohn passed away peacefully at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center in Sioux City on Feb. 8, 2024, at the age of 81.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, March 7, 2024 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel at 3220 Stone Park Blvd., Sioux City.

Interment will be at a later date at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin in a graveside service with family present.

Memorial donations may be directed to the Siouxland Humane Society.

The family is indebted to Mike Rodriguez and Denny Fey for their years of help and devoted friendship to Gary.

Born on March 12, 1942, in Pekin, Ill., to John and Alberta Mae (Wilson) Krohn, Gary was the eldest of four children and grew up in South Pekin.

He graduated from Pekin Community High School, where he was active in sports, and attended Illinois State University on a track-and-field scholarship and, later, Southern Illinois University, where he was a member of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity.

After his time in college, Gary followed in his father’s footsteps and became an ironworker. He had a hand in constructing many bridges and buildings in the Missouri River basin, particularly in and around Kansas City and Omaha, where he was a proud member of Ironworkers Local 21.

Gary was preceded in death by his wife, Cathy Lynn (Bastonero) Krohn, and his brother Dennis Krohn.

He is survived by his children, Michael Krohn and Erin Krohn, and their spouses; by his siblings Eric Krohn and Deborah Krohn; and by his sisters-in-law, Julie Krohn, Gloria Bianchi, and Anita Krause, as well as by six nieces and nephews.
