John William Vlahoulis

June 24, 1935 - Oct. 26, 2023

SANTA FE, NM - John William Vlahoulis of Albuquerque, N.M., formerly of Sioux City, IA, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family & loved ones on Oct 26, 2023.

John was the son of William & Martha Vlahoulis. Born June 24, 1935 in Sioux City, IA, John attended Hunt Elementary School & North Junior High School. He graduated from Cental High School mid year 1952-1953.

John enlisted in the US Marine Corps in February 1954 and proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict, being Honorably Discharged in February 1956.

Upon returning to the United States, John joined the family dry cleaning business, Downtown Cleaners, in Sioux City, IA. On April 26, 1958, John was united in marriage to Joan Cacavas. Out of this union, 3 sons were born. William, George & John Jr. The marriage was dissolved in 1981.

In 1984, John married Karla Carellas and they settled in Albuquerque, NM. John moved West and entered the Financial Services Industry as a Financial Consultant and was known as a Specialist in Municipal Bonds. He was employed by ML Stearns in Beverly Hills, CA prior to joining Dean Witter(currently Morgan Stanley) in Albuquerque, NM, retiring as Vice President of Municipal Bonds in 2000. He un-retired and had been working for Batie & Company, in Albuquerque, until Oct of this year. He was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Albuquerque.

John is survived by his wife of 35 years, Karla, brother, Andy(Sandy)of Scottsdale, AZ. Sons William of Asheville, NC. George & John Jr., granddaughter Kayla(Andy), great grandchildren Addilyn & Axel, all of Sioux City, IA. Nephews James & Greg(Michelle) of Scottsdale, AZ. Step children Steve(Sarah), Maria(Chris), Julie(Keith), Peter(Michelle) and 20 step grandchildren.

Services were held at St. Elias the Prophet Greek Orthodox Church in Sante Fe, NM. Internment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, IA. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Presbyterian Hospice of Albuquerque, NM for the excellent care John received.
