Darrell Clausen

Darrell C. Clausen, age 75, of Sioux City, passed away Saturday, November 11, 2023.

A visitation with family will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday, November 19, 2023, at Christy-Smith Funeral homes, Morningside Chapel with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 20, 2023, at St. Luke Lutheran Church.

Darrell C. Clausen, the youngest son of Claus and Elsie Clausen was born on November 22, 1947, in Sioux City. He graduated from East High School and then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. After his time in the service, Darrell began working in finance, followed by a life-long career in sales.

On August 15, 1982, he married Vesta Clausen in Las Vegas, NV. He was father to six children, grandpa to sixteen, and great grandpa to three (with one more on the way). He truly enjoyed having a large family and the chaos of frequent large gatherings. He made sure his kids knew how to work hard, how to love even harder, and how to nourish a relationship with Christ. Darrell will be remembered as a good dad and even better grandpa.

Darrell was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church for 39 years, serving on the church council and various other committees. He was most proud of serving as a co-chair on the building committee for the newest addition to the church.

Survivors include his wife, Vesta Clausen; children, Derek Clausen, Robert and Vivian Rice, Drake and Trisha Clausen, Michael and Mandy Clausen, Amber and Eric Kilburn; son-in-law, John Wiggins; brother, Larry Clausen; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, in-laws, nieces, nephews, and countless others who will miss his smile and often un-solicited advice.

He is preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Deanna Karley; daughter, Jessica Wiggins; grandsons, Bryce and Gabriel Clausen; brothers, Royal (Marjorie), Arnold (Bernice), Gail (Lucy Mae), Bernard (Dawn), Richard; sister, Donna (Sam) Ellyson; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Clausen. There is no doubt that his heavenly homecoming was a very special one.

Memorials can be directed to St. Luke Lutheran Church.
