Mary Irene Cadwell

Mary Irene Cadwell, was born on August 22, 1938, in the octagon-shaped house on Kansas Street in Sioux City, Iowa to father and mother John & Laura (Lanegan) Crowell. She departed this life on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at Westwood Nursing and Rehab at the age of 85 years, 2 months, and 2 days due to an 8 1/2 year battle with dementia, which was brought on by a massive stroke in February 2015.

Mary attended Central High School.

She married Gerald E. Cadwell on May 23, 1959.

She was a stay-at-home mom to daughters: Tamme, Kim and Jennifer. Later in life, she was a Senior Companion, where she enjoyed many friendships with those, she helped each day.

Mary loved playing Bingo and collecting cardinals. She really, really, really loved her candy!

Her favorite television channel was the Hallmark Channel; and if you tried to turn the channel, she would let you know to turn it back to her channel!

Her favorite football team was the Dallas Cowboys.

She was a long-time member of Whitfield United Methodist Church in Sioux City.

She is survived by her daughters Tamme (Paul) Saul, Kim (Jason) Wood, Jennifer (Todd) Harms, all of Sioux City, Five grandchildren: Hillary, Alexander, Samantha, Joshua, Zachary; 7 great-grandchildren: Avery, Ashton, Jakoby, Ashlynn, Elijah, Laken, and Grayson; 1 great-great grandchild: Lilah; 1 sister: Donna Bowman of Hinton; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her beloved parents John E. Crowell and Laura Mae (Lanegan) Crowell, brother, Donald Crowell, sisters Betty Albers and Lois Roenfeldt and husband, Gerald Cadwell.

A Celebration of Life service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 18, 2023 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. Following the service, private family burial will take place at Graceland Park Cemetery.

The family of Mary wishes to thank Care Initiatives/Hospice, Westwood Nursing and Rehab for their care and to all our friends who have prayed for us during her battle with dementia.
