GRANDBURY, TX -

Helen Shiuvaun (O'Brien) Nasypany, 88, of Granbury, Texas passed away on Thursday November 2, 2023 in Granbury. She was born in Sioux City, Iowa on May 24, 1935 to Michael John O'Brien and Hanorah Myrtle (Toomey) O'Brien.

Mrs Nasypany was the last of eight children to include her sister, Patricia, and six brothers: Donald, Michael, John, Robert, Phillip and Thomas. She went to Blessed Sacrament and graduated from Heelan High School in Sioux City. Attending Briar Cliff College, run by the Sisters of St Francis.

Mrs. Nasypany graduated with a degree in Education. She then taught Elementary school for several years in Sioux City. On August 31, 1957 in Sioux City, Iowa, she married LT Raymond Nasypany of the USAF and began 66 years as an Air Force wife. They served in multiple locations, both in the United States and Europe, over 26 years of active duty, and in that time she never met a stranger.

During that time, she raised three children, moved her family over 17 times, established a home in each place and probably quelled a few riots with dispatch and aplomb. The couple retired in Wichita Falls, Texas after her husband left Active Duty. Mrs Nasypany's hobbies included basket weaving, painting, refinishing well-loved furniture, and quilting. With several of her friends in Wichita Falls, she founded the Stitch & B***h Quilting Group. They not only made beautiful quilts, but solved most of the World's problems with feminine insight. The Nasypany's moved to Granbury in 1999 with the stated purpose of being "Closer to grandchildren." They were members of St Frances Cabrini Roman Catholic Church, the Air Force Association and EAA Chapter 983.

Mrs Nasypany is survived by Ray, her loving husband of 66 years; daughters Mary (Bill Downey) of Corpus Christi, Barbara (Joe Davis) of Dallas, and son, Stephen of San Francisco. Granddaughters Katie Downey (Tom Probert), Olivia Davis, and grandsons Joey Davis and Henry Davis. Sister-in-law Mary O'Brien and brother-in-law Joe Nasypany (Betty).

She was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Myrtle O'Brien; siblings Patricia Aiken (Albert), Don (Ruth), Michael (Gladys), John (Doris), Robert (Nella), Phillip, and Thomas. Her in-laws, Wasyl and Eva (Bundyk) Nasypany. Michael, Mary Malinchak (Andy), Jean Mayton (Marty), Peter (Helen), John (Patricia), George (Beatrice), Paul (Frances), Phyllis Nasypany and Emily McPherson (Vaughn). Nieces Nora Aiken, Colleen Jackson and Peg Reit. Nephews Kevin O'Brien, Dan O'Brien, John O'Brien and Jared Scott.

On Friday November 17, 2023, there will be a Wake from 6-8PM with the Celebration of the Rosary at 7:30 PM at the Wiley Chapel (400 East US Hwy 377, Granbury, TX 76048) On Saturday November 18, 2023, there will be a Funeral Mass at 9AM at St Francis Cabrini Catholic Church (2301 Acton Hwy, Granbury, TX 76049).
