Vernon "Willie" D. Chedester

SIOUX CITY – Vernon "Willie" D. Chedester, 93, of Sioux City, died on Friday, October 27, 2023, in Sioux City, IA.

A visitation will be 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm Thursday, November 2, 2023, at Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, Morningside Chapel, 1801 Morningside Ave., with a prayer service at 6:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am Friday, November 3, 2023, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sioux City with burial to follow in Graceland Park Cemetery.

Vernon was born September 9, 1930, at the round barn in Pisgah, IA and later lived on a farm in Soldier, IA. He married Catherine Green on August 23, 1954, in Corinth, MS. Vernon worked as a mechanic his whole life, beginning with helping his brother, Levi, at Chedester Garage in Sioux City. After that he worked for Kidder Knoepfler Chevrolet in Sioux City and Mike's Auto in Sloan, IA. Vernon's past times included playing old time country music and fixing items he purchased at an auction.

Survivors include his two daughters and their husbands, Cheri (Frank) Cosgrove and Gina (Bill) Myers, all of Dakota Dunes, SD; nine grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; the love of his life, Catherine "Shorty"; a daughter, Brenda Woods; twin sons, Patrick and Vernon at birth; and eight siblings.
