Rev. Ernest "Pastor Ernie" Marvin Caltvedt, age 90, formerly of Sioux City, passed away in his sleep October 9, 2023 in Minneapolis.

He was born in rural Story County, Iowa to Martin and Bernice Caltvedt. He attended Waldorf College, Iowa State, and Luther Seminary. He married Eloise (Kylander) in 1962. During his career as an ELCA Lutheran pastor, he served in Hong Kong; Taiwan; Northome, MN; Washington, IA and Sioux City, where he served one year as chaplain at St. Luke Hospital and 11 years at Immanuel Lutheran (now United).

In retirement, he served several churches as interim pastor and at Calvary Episcopal and taught ELL at WITCC. He moved to Ames to care for his mother until her death. For several years, he was a very active member of 7500 York Cooperative in Edina, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 38 years, and sister Virgetta.

He is survived by his daughter Siri, sisters Betty Page and Elaine (Michael) Hanson, brother Lester (Sarah), and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was at Christ Church Lutheran (Mpls) on October 20. Memorial service at United Lutheran Church on Friday, November 3, at 11AM, with visitation beginning at 10AM. Interment at Graceland Park Cemetery at 1PM. Memorials to Siouxland Habitat for Humanity. Washburn-McReavy (612) 781-1999
