30 January 1913Wendel King died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George McGrain, 3 miles southwest of Mapleton, Monday, January 27, 1913 at the age of 86 years, 3 months and 10 days. He was born in Germany Oct. 17, 1826. When 15 years old, he came with his parents to America and settled in Ohio. In 1854 he was married to Rosa Kasheminer. One year later they came to Iowa and settled in Winnisheik County later, they moved to Kansas, and then to Minnesota and in 1880 came to Western Iowa, settling near Mapleton about 25 years ago where he has since resided.
He leaves 6 children , Mike and King of Dunlap, Mrs. Emma Killion and Mrs. Kate Fitzpatrick, Danbury, Mrs. Mary McGrain, Mapleton and Mis Rose King, Sioux City, 21 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at St Mary Catholic church, Mapleton, and his remains laid by the side of that of his wife at St. Mary Catholic cemetery at Danbury.
