Merle R. "Bing" Hall, 79, passed away Saturday, March 7, 1992, at his home in Correctionville after a long illness.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 10, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Anthon with Rev. Gerald Zensen and Msgr. Alfred Behrens concelebrating. Burial was in Mt. St. Joseph Cemetery at Anthon with military graveside rites conducted by Mumford-Moon Post 79, American Legion of Correctionville, under direction of Walter-Armstrong Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Iowa Highway patrolmen.

Merle Robert "Bing" Hall, the son of Harry and Dode (Erp) Hall, was born September 13, 1912, in Correctionville. He graduated from Correctionville High School and attended the University of Iowa. In 1932 he was one of the fifty original Iowa Highway Patrolmen. He married Ruth Finzen October 21, 1945, in Good Hope, Illinois. The couple operated taverns in Correctionville and Moville. He operated the Anthon locker plant for several years. They also farmed in the Correctionville and Kingsley communities. He was a salesman for Look magazine for over 20 years.

He was a candidate for the Woodbury County Board of Supervisors and the Iowa House of Representatives.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church at Anthon.

He was an Air Force veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, a son Gary of Des Moines, a daughter, Mrs. Meford (Dianne) Ludwig of Omaha, a sister, Mrs. Frances Petersen of Correctionville, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

He was preceded by his parents, a daughter, a great granddaughter and two brothers.
