Elk Point, S.D. Died Sioux City

Martin Fred Jorgensen, 84, of Elk Point, South Dakota, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2022 at Westwood Specialty Care in Sioux City.

Funeral Service will be at 11 a.m., Monday, Oct. 24, 2022 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Elk Point with Pastor Erik Olson officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City after the luncheon. Visitation with family present will be an hour prior to the service at the church.

Martin was born on Aug. 28, 1938 in Sioux City, the son of Fred & Esther (Krogh) Jorgensen. He attended and graduated from Elk Point High School in 1956. Upon his graduation from high school, he enlisted in United States Air National Guard and served his country for two years.

He was a lifelong farmer in Elk Point for many years and enjoyed gardening. He was a proud member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Elk Point and served on the church board. He also ushered there for several years. He was an avid golfer and became a golf member of Elk Point Golf Course since the golf course opened. Martin also served as a Treasurer for the Elk Point Township Board for 34 years.

Martin is survived by his two sisters, Dorothy Gunion of Onawa, Iowa and Carol Jorgensen of Elk Point; his nephews, John Gunion of Elk Point and Michael (Ann) Gunion of Springfield, Mo. and their children, Sarah, Christi and Kate; and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred & Esther Jorgensen.
