Hugh A. Crilly, 53, died unexpectedly in his farm home southeast of Anthon at noon on Wednesday, November 3, 1943, following a lingering illness.

Although his body endured much pain in the years that he suffered with arthritis, his disposition was always cheerful.

Hugh A. Crilly, son of Thomas and Nellie Crilly, was born January 29, 1890, in Morgan Twp., Woodbury Co. He received his education in the Morgan rural schools and at St. Patrick's Academy in Danbury. He spent most of his life farming in Morgan Twp. with the exception of a few years when he worked in Sioux City, Iowa, and Cheyenne, Wyoming. He was a school director and township trustee at one time.

On April 14, 1913, he married Florence O'Connor at Danbury. They were blessed with ten children who survive their father. All were present at last rites.

Funeral services were held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Joseph's Catholic Church at Anthon with Rev. Father A.M. Conlon officiating. Burial was in Mt. St. Joseph's Cemetery, Anthon, under direction of Walter Funeral Home.

Surviving are his wife, Florence, five sons, Pfc. Francis H. of Camp Shelby, Mississippi, Gene of Epworth, Iowa, and Wayne, Ralph and Mike at home; five daughters, Mrs. Nellie Pearson of Sioux City, Mrs. Mary Burke of St. Joseph, Missouri, Mrs. Eileen Renneker of Anthon, Sister Alice Marie of Dubuque, Iowa, and Pauline at home, his father, Tom Crilly of Danbury, one sister, Mrs. Alyce Porter of Los Angeles, California; two brothers, Frank Crilly of Long Pine, California, and Raymond of Pocatello, Idaho, two grandchildren and other relatives.
