Joan Katherine Trometer

Sioux City

Joan Katherine Trometer, 90, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 2, 2022, in Rochester, Minn.

There will be a private service for family members only. Remember Joan as you last saw her. Those were her wishes.

Joan Katherine Klave was born on Oct. 29, 1931, to Fred and Rose Klave. She grew up on the family farm west of Le Mars, Iowa, with her eight brothers and sisters. She met the love of her life, George Trometer, and married him on Dec. 26, 1948. George and Joan got to spend close to 60 years together, living on their farm, traveling to Tucson in the winter, and eventually settling in Sioux City.

Joan worked for the Sioux City Public Library for 31 years. She was so proud of her work and regularly took her grandchildren for story hour and other activities.

She is survived by her two children, daughter Linda (Bob) Martindale, and son Randal; grandchildren Sonia and Chad and their children Hayden and Finn Mathern, Kevin and Jamie and their daughter Ashley and her son Bentley Trometer, Amanda and Tim and their son Jared Webb, Heath and Amy and their daughter Hannah Trometer, Cameron Trometer, Brittany and Jacob and their daughter Raelyn Gengler, and Kaeley and her daughter Everly Trometer.

Joan was preceded in death by her husband, George; parents; brothers and sisters; and many more.

Joan was such a light in this world, and she will be deeply missed by all who were lucky enough to know her. She touched the lives of so many people across multiple generations through her work at the library and by spending time with family, friends, and neighbors. Anyone who knew Joan knows that her family meant everything to he and in her eyes, each of you reading this was family. Her love of life was evident in the way she lived. Even just sitting in her driveway turned into a fun time with family, friends, and of course her dog, Elizabeth Taylor.

Memorials may be sent to Sioux City Public Library Foundation, 529 Pierce St., Sioux City, IA 51101.
