James Conley, Sr., a native of Iowa and a good citizen of Anthon, nearly 66 years old, died Friday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock in the Sioux City St. Joseph's Hospital after ailing for some time.

The funeral was held Monday forenoon at 10 o'clock in the Anthon St. Joseph's Church with Rev. D.K. Hurley as the officiating minister. Burial was made in Mt. St. Joseph Cemetery.

James Conley, Sr. was born at Cascade, Iowa, February 13, 1860, and was married to Delia Burke at Clinton, Iowa, May 11, 1886. The Conley home was blessed with nine children; a son, Frank, and a baby having preceded the father in death.

The living are two daughters, Mrs. H.D. Fitzpatrick and Miss Mary Conley of Anthon; five sons, J.M., J.E., Pat, Ligouri and Will of Anthon.

James Conley lived in the State of Iowa since his birth. For many years the Conley family resided on a farm near Oto. Sixteen years ago the family moved to Anthon where Mr. Conley purchased the Anthon dray line from Charles Sheffield. During his entire residence in Anthon Mr. Conley has engaged in the draying business and for some time has been the Anthon ice merchant.

Mr. Conley was a hard worker who found contentment only when engaged at the most difficult labor. He was honest in his dealings and attended strictly to his own affairs. Nothing better could be said of any man.

He was reared in the Catholic Church and to the last was faithful and a firm believer in its teachings.

Besides his beloved wife and children, Mr. Conley is survived by one sister, Mrs. John Hardiman of Cascade, and one brother, Ed Conley of Cascade.

He is also survived by eight grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends who cherish his memory.
