Lewis T. Collins, 72, mayor of Anthon since 1970, died suddenly Thursday at his home of an apparent heart attack.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Rev. J.G. Skahill officiating. Burial was in the Church Cemetery under direction of Walter Funeral Home under direction of Walter Funeral Home.

Lewis was born June 2, 1901, in Anthon, the son of William and Martha Uhl Collins, and had been a lifelong resident. He was a retired farmer. He married Olive Mohrhauser January 25, 1927, at Danbury. They farmed in the Anthon area until moving to town in 1961.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Anthon, the Knights of Columbus and the Peace Officer's Association. He served as chairman of the Woodbury County Agriculture Stabilization & Conservation Commission and was a member of the committee for nine years. He was a former Bluff Center School District board member and a former assessor from Miller Twp.

Survivors include the widow, two daughters, Mrs. Earl (Marcene) Miller of Sioux City, and Mrs. Ronald (Mary Ann) Ashby of Little Falls, Minnesota; five sons, Donald of Nampa, California, Norman and Phillip of Sioux City, Maurice of Anthon, and William of Pierson; a brother Alfred of Colorado Springs, Colorado; five sisters, Mrs. Josephine Carpenter of Sioux City, Mrs. Helen Hayes of Benicia, California, and Mrs. Earl (Alice) Matt, Mrs. Gerald (Laura) Welte, and Mrs. Lawrence (Gertrude) Schimmer, all of Danbury, and 32 grandchildren.
