Dan Foley, 75, 603 Pearl Street, died Monday afternoon of a heart attack.

Better known as "Danny" Mr. Foley was a well-known semipro baseball player in his younger days. He once played third base for the Tutti-Fruitti, semi professional traveling baseball team under the management of Roxy Johnson.

Slight of stature, wearing a cap and generally "pulling" at a cigar, "Danny" was a familiar figure on Sioux City streets. He had resided here since 1880.

Always a baseball enthusiast even after hanging up his own glove, he was oh the opinion that the game possessed more of a punch in the old days.

"Those days", he said on his last birthday, emphasis was on stealing bases. The trick was to get on base and steal. Nowadays the big-league managers rely on hitting power to get the running home."

It was "Danny's" boast that in his prime he ran the 100 yards in 10.3 seconds. When playing baseball he generally was leadoff man and some of his teammates included W.H. ("Billy") McMaster, later governor of South Dakota and still later United States senator, Elmer Johnson, first baseman and Jack Morris and Billy Whitfield, outfielders, were other oldtime players Mr. Foley often mentioned.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Blair Smith of Council Bluffs, Ia., and two brothers, R. F. Foley of San Francisco, and J. W. Foley of Los Angeles.

The funeral will be held at 9 a. m. Wednesday in the Cathedral of Epiphany. Rev. Thomas M. Parle will officiate and interment will be in Calvary cemetery.

The rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m. today in the Perasso Bros. chapel.
