Sioux Valley News
7 February 1884

On January 31,1884, Oliver Jerman passed away at his home near Lucky Valley. On December 23 just passed, he saw his 67th birthday.

He was born in Quebec City but came to Jackson County about fifty years ago where he raised a large family, the members of which except one, survive him.

Mrs. Burnett, Mrs. E. W. Cory, Mrs. N. C. Courtney, Mrs. H. Robb, J. B. and J. O. Jerman are children living at Lucky Valley, the remaining ones living in Jackson County.

Mr. Jerman passed away quietly and was buried February 1st in the Wolf Creek Twp. Cemetery, the first interment.

The attendance was quite large, 75 teams, mostly farm wagons filled with people, and about 75 people on horseback formed the procession which moved to the Catholic church just north of town where the services were held. Not half the people could get into the church, but nearly everybody passed in to take a last look at the dead.

When the services at the grave were completed, many of the teams left to attend the funeral of Father Dicus, who was buried at Wolf Dale a few hours later.
