Douglas Eugene Jenkins, 74, of Salix, Iowa entered into eternal rest on Saturday, October 15, 2022, surrounded by family.

A funeral service will be at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, October 20, 2022 at the Goslar Funeral Home Chapel, Onawa, Iowa, with Darren C. E. Goslar officiating. A live stream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Douglas’ obituary. Burial will follow in the Sloan Cemetery, Sloan, Iowa. A visitation will be 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at the Goslar Funeral Home Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

Douglas, “Doug” was born July 8, 1948 in Onawa, Iowa, the third child of Glenn and Alice (Byers) Jenkins. He was raised on a farm in rural Sloan, Iowa and graduated in 1967 from Westwood High School.

Doug met and later married Carol Irwin on March 17, 1974 in Elk Point, South Dakota. To this union three children were born; one son and two daughters. Doug and Carol made their home in Sloan, Iowa and later moved to an acreage near Salix, Iowa where they raised their family.

Doug worked for Cargill Elevator in Sloan, Iowa and later at their Onawa, Iowa location. Doug founded Jenkins Trucking and spent many years transporting grain for area grain elevators. Later, worked on several earth moving projects in Omaha, Nebraska. He also hauled product for several highway projects in the tri-state area. Doug enjoyed woodworking in his spare time and was a master at his craft. He was a devoted father and grandfather and treasured the time spent with his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his three children, Cheryl Marie Edris of Onawa, Iowa, Eric Eugene Jenkins of Rapid City, South Dakota, Lisa Ann Jenkins of Sioux City, Iowa; grandchildren, Bradyn Bangtson, Hunter Jenkins, Iris Hancock, and Cody Jenkins; eight siblings, Glenn Jenkins Jr. of Sloan, Iowa, Phillip (Linda) Jenkins of Sloan, Iowa , Roger (Blanche) Jenkins of Sloan , Iowa, Betty (Steve) Hickman of Faribault, Minnesota, Charlotte Hemmrich of Overland Park, Kansas, Lester (Jane) Jenkins of Whiting, Iowa, Karen Jenkins of Sloan, Iowa, Leann Jenkins of Sloan, Iowa; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Alice (Byers) Jenkins; sister, Joann Jenkins; granddaughter, Angel Edris; grandparents; aunts; uncles; nieces; nephews; and cousins.

Doug touched the lived of all who knew him and will be deeply missed. May you rest in eternal peace until when someday down that lonely road you hear us call your name.
