Raymond Eugene 'Ray' Ferdig

Payson, Utah, formerly Sioux City

Raymond Eugene "Ray" Ferdig, 81, of Payson passed away peacefully Friday, July 22, 2022, at his home in Payson.

Celebration of Life will occur from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday at the Sioux City Elk's Club, 1001 Tri View Ave.

Ray was born Dec. 30, 1940, the oldest and only son of three children to Kenneth Paul Ferdig and Leona Mary Ann Jaros, in Sioux City.

Ray grew up with his two younger sisters and attended schools in Illinois and Iowa, graduating high school in Iowa where he was on the baseball and wrestling teams.

His career was spent as a quality control technician for the Iowa Dept. of Transportation.

Ray married Sandra Rae Konold in Aurora, Ill., on Aug. 3, 2001, and became a bonus father to her children. Together, they are parents to Tami, Melissa, Cheri, Bonnie, Gregg Fry and Thomas Fry.

He enjoyed golfing and woodworking, watching football and being outdoors.

Ray is survived by his wife, Sandra; children, Gregg (Karen) Fry, Tami (Jay) Doran, Melissa Roupe, Cheri Ferdig Starling, and Bonnie (Kenneth) Cameron; sister Judy (Burl) Clark; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister; and a stepson.
