Patrick James Shay, 61, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, Sept. 4, 2022. A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 10 a.m., Mater Dei Parish, Immaculate Conception Church in Sioux City. Burial: Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation: Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Online condolences may be made at www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Patrick was born on March 21, 1961 in Sioux City, the son of Jim and Dolores (McDonald) Shay. Patrick was a lifelong resident of Sioux City, attending Catholic schools and graduating from Bishop Heelan High School in 1979. He attended the University of Iowa, returning home to work at MCI and Stone Container while commuting to USD. Following college, he managed a production line at Wells Blue Bunny, where he met his wife, Donna Ouellette. They were married on Dec. 2, 2011 in Sioux City. He continued working there until he retired at age 61.

Patrick was a very humble, hard-working, funny, friendly and compassionate man. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals and various college and professional sports teams. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing, Saturday night steak dinners at his dad and mom's, daily afternoon conversations with his dad on his way to work, and time spent with family and friends.

Patrick is survived by his wife, Donna; his mother, Dolores; sisters, Joni (Mike) Sokolowski, Sergeant Bluff, and Monica (John) Harty, Sioux City; mother-in-law, Violet Dietz, Sioux City; brother-in-law, Danny Evans (James) Sioux City; sisters-in-law, Viola Workman (Jon), Ohio, and Emily Ouellette, Nebraska; 13 nieces and nephews and 12 great-nieces and nephews.

Patrick was preceded in death by his father, James (Jim); maternal grandparents, Thomas and Elsie McDonald; paternal grandparents, Ernest and Winnifred Shay; father-in-law, Daniel Ouelette; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Patrick continued his generous and caring spirit by donating his eyes, organs, and tissue so others may have a better life.
