Danetta "Dawn" Hicklin, 54, of Sioux City passed away surrounded by her family on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2022.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Sioux City with Father David Hemann officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the church. A private interment will be at Logan Cemetery. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is handling the arrangements. Dawn was born on May 14, 1968, in Sioux City to Richard and Carol (Schroeder) Boever. She was raised on the family farm in Remsen, Iowa, until moving to Sioux City in 1998. Dawn graduated from Remsen St. Mary's and went on to attend Beauty School in Des Moines. She was self-employed as a hair stylist from 1989 to 1999 in Sioux City. In 1999 she began working as an assistant for her family-owned business.
Dawn was united in marriage to Randy Hicklin on June 20, 1998, in Remsen. Dawn spent years traveling to, building, and enjoying her lake homes in Northern Minnesota with family and friends. She was devoted to the Catholic faith, spending her time going to daily mass at St. Michael's Catholic Church and praying for those she loved. She enjoyed making crafts, writing poetry, singing karaoke, and canning food. Dawn loved spending time with her children, supporting them in all of their various interests, and never missed a sporting event.
She is survived by her husband Randy Hicklin of Sioux City; children Riley (Bobby) Sieker and baby Leo of Boise, Idaho, Joseph (fiancée, MacKenzie ) Hicklin of Waterloo, Iowa, Jillian Hicklin of Sioux City, and Carlene Hicklin of Sioux City; stepchildren Melissa, Joshua (Emily), and Kayla, all of Sioux City; several grandchildren; siblings Dan (Kelly) Boever, Doug Boever, David (Denise) Boever, and Diann (Mike) Parcelli; mother- and father-in-law Dennis (Mary) Hicklin; brothers- and sisters-in-law Dan (Cathy) Hicklin, Tammy (John) Eveleth, Holly (Ted) Camamo, Tim (Wendy) Hicklin; and many nieces, nephews and step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother-in-law, Tom Hicklin.
Flowers and memorials may be made to the family for a college fund for Dawn's daughters.
