29 October 1943Mrs. J. A. Hall, 80, Jackson, died Thursday night in a Sioux City hospital.
She was born Ellen Ryan, June 5, 1863, at Jackson and taught in the public school there from 1883 to 1888. She was married June 27, 1888, at St. Patrick's church in Jackson to J. A. Hall, who was superintendent of schools in South Sioux City from 1894 to 1896.
In September 1897, they moved to Jackson, where they operated a general mercantile store until 1920. Mr. Hall died in 1939. Recently Mrs. Hall had made her home with a daughter, Mrs. Leonard J. Casey, at Walthill, Neb.
Survivors include six sons, Harold C., Sioux City; Ambrose D., Los Angeles; Ray E., Waterloo, la.; Joseph L., Akron, Colo.; Staff Sergeant Thomas A., in the army overseas, and Chief Warrant Officer Ryan F., in the navy in the south Pacific.
Also surviving are six daughters, Mrs. E. T. Long, Hubbard, Neb.; Mrs. E. E. Feeney, Springfield, Ill., Mrs. J. E. Manley, Dakota City, Neb.; Mrs. E. H. Schindler, Kearney, Neb.; Mrs. Leonard J. Casey, Walthill and Mrs. E. A. Kuehn, Madison, Nebr. and 27 grandchildren, a great-grandchild, a brother, John Ryan, Jackson, and a sister, Mrs. M.J. Flynn, Sioux City.
The body was taken to Larkin's funeral home.
