Hattie M. Kenyon
1872 – 1962

Hattie M. Kenyon was born on August 2, 1872, to James and Nina Coon at Spring Green, Wisc. At the age of four she came with her parents, brothers and sisters in a covered wagon to a farm near Correctionville, where she grew to young womanhood.

On December 31, 1891, she was married to John H. Kenyon in Ida Grove. To this union one daughter, Grace, was born.

After farming near Correctionville for five years, they moved to Cedar Rapids, where they farmed for fifteen years. Mr. and Mrs. Kenyon returned to Correctionville and farmed five miles southeast of town until they retired in May, 1938 and moved to Correctionville. Mrs. Kenyon was baptised in the Correctionville Church of Christ.

Mr. Kenyon passed away March 22, 1951, and in 1963, Mrs. Kenyon moved to Winterset with her daughter and granddaughter, Mrs. Grace Lafferty and Margie.

Mrs. Kenyon passed away at her home, Thursday, May 3, at the age of 89 years and 9 months, after years of failing health. She was the last member of her family of nine.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Grace Lafferty, of Winterset; two granddaughters, Mrs. Geneva Hougham of Earlham and Margie Lafferty of Winterset; two great grandsons, Norman Hougham of Des Moines and Larry Hougham stationed with, the navy at Beeville, Texas; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Sunday, May 6, at 2:30 p. m. at the Wilson-Hull Funeral Home. Louis Ferguson, minister of the Church of Christ, officiated. Jane Brown and Barbara Anderson sang “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere” and “Going Home”, accompanied by Dean Cockburn, organist.

Pallbearers were Glen Camarigg, Ray Clark, LeRoy Clark, Kenneth Heath, Ernest Brauninger and Frank Growth. Howard Henderson arranged the cars and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Camarigg cared for the flowers.

Burial was in the Correctionville Cemetery under the direction of Wilson-Hull Funeral Home.
