Pierson Progress
27 December 1928

John Williams was born in Pierson at the home where his parents still reside. He grew to manhood here, graduated from high school and went out into the world with bright hopes of achievement for the future. At the time of his death he was athletic director in the public schools of Tipton, Iowa. He was deterred from his school duties the week following Thanksgiving by an attack of the "flu" but returned to work on Monday morning of the next week. On Friday night he was stricken with fatal pneumonia, with which he was unable to grapple.

His parents were notified and Mrs. Williams went at once to his bedside. Every known medical remedy was employed in an effort to relieve the suffering but he died on Christmas Eve at the Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.

John Burnell Williams, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. E.J. Williams, was born in Pierson July 26, 1903. He graduated from Pierson High School with the class of 1921 then received his B.A. degree from the State University of Iowa. He taught in the high school in Ringsted for three years and was at Tipton since last February.

He was a member of the Pierson Church of Christ.

Survivors include his parents, a sister, Shirley, a brother, Harold, a half-sister, Mrs. Harry Kitson of Gilbert, Iowa, besides other relatives and friends.

The funeral was conducted from the Pierson Church of Christ with Rev. H. LeRoy Kinser in charge. The senior class of Pierson High School, of which his brother Harold was a member, attended the deceased. Burial was in Good Hope Cemetery east of Pierson with funeral arrangements by C.A. Osborn.
