Services Held Monday

Funeral services for Jerold E. Sipes, 45, Union township farmer, were conducted Tuesday, January 15, 1952 at 2:00 p.m. in the Pierson Methodist church. Rev. Max Goldman, pastor, officiated and Interment was in the Good Hope cemetery.

Marleno Bateman sang “Beyond the Sunset” and “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere” accompanied at the piano by Patsy Deniinger.

Pallbearers were William Mccleary, Clarence Newton, Ernest Schweitzberger, Dwight Linn, Frank Altentus and Harold Swanger. The Osborn funeral home of Pierson was in charge of arrangements.

Obituary

Jerold Eldon Sipes, son of Mary and James Lewis Sipes, was born November 2, 1906, at Forbes, Missouri. He was one of nine children.

Mr. Sipes attended school in Forbes, Mo. He moved to Iowa and for some time made his home at Climbing Hill.

On August 6, 1932, he married Margaret Catherine Ostermeyer of South Sioux City, Nebraska. To this union were born five children.

Mr. Sipes and his family resided in Climbing Hill, Lawton and Correctionville, the latter since 1935. His chief occupation has been that of farming. In his youth while at Forbes, he was associated with the Methodist Church.

Following an illness of about a year he died in a Sioux City hospital January 12, 1952, at the age of 45 years, 2 months and 11 days.

He was preceded in death by his mother, three sisters, one brother, and an infant son, the first child, James Eldon.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret, four children, Alice Jean, William Jerold, Betty Ann and Paul Allen, his father, James Lewis Sipes and four brothers.
