John "Jack" Coffey, 90, of Sioux City died Thursday, May 19, 2022, at Bickford Assisted Living in Sioux City.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at Holy Cross Parish-Blessed Sacrament Church. Burial with military honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

John Coffey, the son of John and Mildred (Nuessle) Coffey, was born June 10, 1931, in Sioux City. He attended Blessed Sacrament grade school and graduated from Trinity High School in 1949. John attended University of Iowa and University of South Dakota. Upon graduation from University of South Dakota, John served in the United States Army. John returned to Sioux City and worked at Culligan, the business he owned with his siblings, until his retirement in 1998.

In 1965, John married Mary Ann Mummert at St. Boniface Church. Their marriage was blessed with four wonderful children. He was a lifelong member of Blessed Sacrament Church.

John enjoyed time with his family, including his ten grandchildren. Vacations to Okoboji were some of his favorite times. John was an avid golfer, and many memories were made at the Sioux City Boat Club and over a cold beer after golf. He enjoyed daily crossword puzzles and coffee at Soo Thrifty and later HyVee. John liked watching sports, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes.

John is survived by his children, Diane Gilreath of Sioux City, Paul (Joni) Coffey of Omaha, Neb., Teresa (Chris) Payer of Sioux City, and Monica (Nick) Stabile of Sioux City; grandchildren Brooke, Veronica, and Jacob Gilreath, Kellen and Kaitlyn Coffey, Ben, Emily, and Luke Payer, and Cooper and Sophia Stabile; nephew, Mark (Tara) Coffey; and two special nieces, Liz Olsen, and Connie (Jeff) Brittan and family.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Coffey; and his siblings, Jerome (Annie) Coffey and Kathryn (Marven) Olsen.

The family would like to thank the staff at Bickford and Hospice of Siouxland for their excellent care of John.

They would also like memorials directed to Bishop Heelan Catholic Schools.
