Mrs. Frances Herrick Bates, 89, of Lawton, died at midnight Thursday in a Sioux City rest home where she had been living the last year.

Mrs. Bates, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Herrick, was born May 15, 1874, at Monticello, Ia. She was married to Chauncey Thomas Bates at Monticello on March 1, 1893.

In 1904 the couple moved to a homestead near Stamford in South Dakota, Mr. Bates served in the state legislature and was supervisor of Custer state park.

They moved to Lawton in 1943. Mr. Bates died on November 7, 1955.

Mrs. Bates was an active member of the Community Presbyterian church at Lawton, the Order of Eastern Star, and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Nancy Davidson of Lawton and Mrs. Mary Stacey of Berien Springs, Mich., 10 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p. m, today in the Community Presbyterian church in Lawton. Burial will be in Banner township cemetery under the direction of the McCulloch funeral home of Moville.
