Arlene J. Hinds, 69, of Sioux City, former Bronson, Iowa, resident, died Friday, Dec. 28, 2001, at her residence following a brief illness.

Services will be 11 a.m. today Presbyterian Church in Bronson, with the Rev. Wayne Peach officiating. Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hinds was born Aug. 11, 1932, in Akron, Iowa, the daughter of Fay and Effie May (Spink) Lower. She was a lifelong resident of the Branson area. She married Paul "Pete" Hinds on Nov. 26, 1952, in Bronson.

She was a member of Elliott Creek Presbyterian Church. She owned and operated Arlene's Place in Bronson. She was instrumental in establishing the Girl Scouts in Bronson and served as a leader. Mrs. Hinds was an avid Hawkeye basketball fan. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, fishing, cooking, family gatherings, and taking care of the grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband of Bronson; three daughters, Paula and her husband, Everett Gunn ' of South Sioux City, Michelle and her husband, Daryl Leisey of Onawa, Iowa, and Pam and her husband, Tom Dirks of Smithland, Iowa; two sons, Roger Hinds of Shreveport, La., and Craig and his wife, Lori Hinds of Bronson; a sister, Betty and her husband, Warren Griffith of Kingsley, Iowa; a brother, Robert Lower of Des Moines, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Samantha Gunn, Allison Gunn, Travis Hinds, Troy Hinds, Chad Hinds, Tommy Dirks, Trenton Dirks, Craig "C.J." Kirby and Dylan Hinds; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two nieces and three nephews.

Pallbearers will be grandchildren, Travis Hinds, Chad Hinds, Craig "C J." Kirby, Troy Hinds, Samantha Gunn and Allison Gunn.
