The Rev. David G. Johnson, 57, of Monmouth, Ill., formerly of Sioux City died Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at St Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Ill.

Services were held in Monmouth. Additional services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Morningside Lutheran Church in Sioux City with the Rev. Don Sarff officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.

Mr. Johnson was born Oct 21, 1943, in Sioux City, the son of Robert K. and Clara A. (Feeldy) Johnson. He was raised and educated in Sioux City. He graduated from East High School in 1961. He graduated from Morningside College in 1965 with a bachelor's degree in English, history, philosophy and religion, and from Luther Theological Seminary in St Paul, Minn., in 1969 with a Master of Divinity degree. He was ordained at Morningside Lutheran Church on June 22, 1969. On July 20, 1969, he was installed as assistant pastor of Holmen-Halfway Creek Lutheran parish in Holmen, Wis. He also served Pella Lutheran Church in Clinton, Wis., Immanuel-Trinity Lutheran Church in Fond du lac, Wis., Our Savior Lutheran Church in Neenah, Wis., and was currently the pastor at First Lutheran Church of Monmouth.

He was active in Warren County Ministerial Association, Monmouth Living Windows, Community Medical Center Chaplain Association, Northern Illinois ELCA Synod Board, and Southwest Conference Ministers of Northern Illinois Synod. He had served on various Synod committees, Synod Council, had been conference dean and was a past board member of Sugar Creek, Lutherdale and Luther Haven Bible Camp. He was a member of East Central Synod Evangelism committee and was on the board of the Fond du lac Lutheran Home.

He enjoyed reading, Swedish history, traveling to Sweden and family reunions.

Survivors include three brothers and their wives, the Rev. Robert C. and Mary Ann Johnson of Omaha, Gordon and Lynn Johnson, and Gary and Jeanne Johnson, all of Sioux Falls; two sisters and their husbands, Sonja and the Rev. Lowell Berg of Hill, Minn., and Kristie and Brian Hoelker of Sioux Falls; and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Daryle Johnson, Larry Forbes, Darwin Schossow, Leon Krai, Glen Johnson, Thomas Eisenhauer, James B. Johnson and Oscar Nelson Jr.
