Dr. Edward M. "Ed" Bottei, 55, of Sergeant Bluff passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2022.

Services will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Thomas Orthodox Church, 1100 Jones St., in Sioux City with Father Peter Cox, among other guest priests, officiating. Burial will follow at St. Thomas Orthodox Cemetery inside Graceland Park. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the church with the family present 5 to 7 p.m. and a Trisagion Service at 7 p.m. A link to view the livestreaming of Ed's service is available under his obituary page at www.meyerbroschapels.com. Edward M. "Ed," the son of Rudolph and Rita (Uznanski) Bottei, was born Aug. 27, 1966, in South Bend, Ind. He grew up and attended school in the South Bend area. After high school, he attended the University of Notre Dame where he obtained an undergraduate degree. Ed completed medical school, an internal medicine residency and a pulmonary and critical care fellowship at the University of Chicago. He then completed a clinical toxicology and hyperbaric medicine fellowship at the University of Cincinnati. In 2000, he took a position as a pulmonary and critical care physician at the West Virginia University-Charleston and as the medical director of the West Virginia Poison Center. In 2002, he moved to Sioux City and has been the medical director of the Iowa Poison Control Center, the state medical toxicologist for the Iowa Department of Public Health, and an adjunct clinical professor at the University of Iowa.

On April 29, 2012, Ed was united in marriage to Deana D. (Wisnieski Engel) at St. Thomas Orthodox Church, and he welcomed her daughter, Sadie, into his life. The family made their home in Sergeant Bluff.

Ed was an active member of St. Thomas Orthodox Church and was a board member at church as well as at the Food Bank of Siouxland. He enjoyed photography, history, and Harry Potter. He was extremely dedicated to his career and to his church.

He is survived by his wife, Deana Bottei; stepdaughter, Sadie Engel; two brothers, Paul (Theresa) Bottei and Greg Bottei; one sister, Roberta Bottei; father- and mother-in-law, Stan and Debbie Wisnieski; brother-in-law, Jay Wisnieski; three nephews; two nieces; other relatives; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and maternal and paternal grandparents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Thomas Orthodox Church or to the Food Bank of Siouxland.
