CHEROKEE, Iowa - Donald R. Walters Jr., 20, of Cherokee died Tuesday in Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee after a 15-month illness.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee. The Rev. J. Donald Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in the Pierson (Iowa) Cemetery under direction of Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee.

Mr. Walters was born Dec. 28, 1966, in Lemoore, Calif., and moved to Cherokee in 1971 with his family. He graduated from Washington High School in 1985 where he participated in football and track.

Mr. Walters was a member of the U.S. Navy Reserves. He was engaged to marry Paula Grothe of Sutherland.

Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Donald R. Walters Sr. of Cherokee; two sisters, Mrs. Dan (Sheryle) Robb and Mrs. Gary (Mary) Brooks, both of Cherokee, and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Mary Willv of Cherokee.
