Russell Earl King 1952 - 2021

Russell E. King, age 68, of Sioux City, passed away on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at the Holy Spirit Retirement Home of Sioux City. A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 25, 2021 at 10:00 AM at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Correctionville with the Rev. Stanley L. Cook officiating. Burial will be at the Correctionville Cemetery of Correctionville. There will be no visitation.

Russell E. King was the fourth born son to Earl H. and Elsie L. (Schumacher) King on October 26, 1952. He graduated from Eastwood Community High School in 1971. After completing high school Russell went to Northwest Iowa Vocational School in Sheldon, Iowa for one year, completing a course in janitorial and maintenance operations. He moved to Sioux City in 1972 and went to work for St. Joseph Hospital. He worked there until 1977 when he went to work for Woolco Department Store for the next five years.

Russell married Sandy Thomas of Sioux City of May 15, 1982. In 1983 he became disabled due to Retinitis Pigmentosa, a progressive retinal degeneration, and was forced to quit working. Russell and Sandy divorced in 1992. On December 9, 1997 he married Evelyn Stoddard in Sioux City. Russell and Evelyn shared a deep love, and even dressed alike for 24 years until her death in 2018. They enjoyed antiquing, having cookouts, and visiting with friends and family. Russell and Evelyn loved commuting by bus to South Sioux City and by the Regency Van Service.

Russell enjoyed the outdoors and particularly loved taking his nephews, Brandon, Trenton and Jason Deeds camping and fishing. He spent a lot of time with the boys while they were growing up and dearly loved them as his own.

Russell is survived by his mother, Elsie King of Correctionville, IA; brothers, Larry (Connie) King of Reinbeck, IA, Roger (Sandy) of Quimby, IA and Daniel (Judy) of LeMars, IA; brother-in-law, Kevin Morton of Sloan, IA; nieces and nephews, Bridget Conley, Britten King, Troy King and Brandon, Trenton and Jason Deeds; a special friend and caretaker, Karen Cook; and many extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Earl; wife, Evelyn; sister-in-law, Judy and nephews, Jeffrey King and Matthew King.
