Rosalie M. Ivener, 74, of Sioux City, passed away on Wednesday, April 28, 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer, at her home surrounded by her loved ones.

Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is assisting with arrangements. Services will be held at a later date.

Rosalie was born July 6, 1946, in Spokane, Wash. Her parents were Joseph and Marie Grundman of Cherokee, Iowa. At age 10, Rosalie's family moved to Sioux City, and she attended Sioux City Schools, graduating from Central High School in 1963. After high school, she attended Morningside College and the University of Nebraska.

In August of 1964, Rosalie met Kirk M. Ivener while "cruising the loop" in downtown Sioux City. They were united in marriage on Feb. 28, 1965 and spent the last 56 years devoted to each other. Their marriage was an example of love and laughter through sickness and health. They were blessed with five children who they raised in Sioux City. Rosalie was a loving mother, passionate volunteer and supported her husband's accounting practice.

Rosalie's life revolved around her family. She enjoyed traveling to visit her children, spoiling her grandchildren and was a matriarch to her extended family. She had a kind heart and unique ability to make everyone feel special. She enjoyed reading, cooking, playing mahjong with friends and shopping. She was also very active with the Jewish Community, Junior League of Sioux City, and several other civic organizations.

Rosalie is survived by her husband, Kirk Ivener of Sioux City; five children, Randy (Kathryn) Ivener of Frisco, Texas, Terry (Teresa) Ivener of Sioux City, Stephanie (Lionel) Liebman of Plano, Texas, Tiphany (Jack) Illyes of League City, Texas, and Jeramy (Shannon) Ivener of Fresno, Calif.; 13 grandchildren, Sadie, Josie, Morgan, Gabe, Macie, Nicole, Zachary, Levi, Taylor, Jackson, Cooper, Aubree and Finley; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law/first cousin, Kent and Michele Ivener; her in-laws, Lynne Buus, and Lance (Dottie) Ivener; and first cousin, Stephen (Marilyn) Koshland. Rosalie was also a beloved aunt to numerous nieces and nephews including Serra-Lesa (Alex) Befler, Gina (Michael) Bernstein, Dolf (Mercedes) Ivener and many more. In addition, she was a beloved friend to many, including her best friend since childhood, Sarilye Atlas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter, Danielle Ivener; aunts, Bessie (Fred) Koshland and Ida Bernat; and in-laws, Barre (Janice) Ivener and Ray Buus.
