Barbara Jean 'Barb' Wingert

Barbara Jean "Barb" (Jacobson) Wingert, 67, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, April 24, 2021, at a local hospital.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with Reverend Dan Ofstehage officiating. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior. Masks will be required at the funeral home. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Online condolence may be given at www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Barb was born Oct. 19, 1953, in Sioux City, the daughter of Donald "Jack" Jacobson and Pauline Blangy. She attended Heelan High School and Western Iowa Tech, receiving her associates of arts and sciences degree on May 10, 1991, and her bachelor's degree of arts from Briar Cliff on May 21, 1994. Barb started her social work career with Women Aware in 1995 and continued to work at the agency until her passing.

Throughout her successful career, Barb received the City of Sioux City and Sioux City Human Right Commission 2009 War Eagle Human Rights Award, State of Iowa Governor's Award, and the United Way Outstanding Service Professional Award. She was a member of the Iowa Board of Social Work licensure. Barb served on many, many boards, coalitions, and committees in the Siouxland area... too numerous to mention each of them.

She is survived by her son William "Joe" (Jodie) Brinkerhoff of Stephenville, Texas; son Jacob "Jake" (Kj) Wingert of Sioux City; grandchildren Mindy Brinkerhoff of Sioux City, Katelyn Brinkerhoff of Sparks, Nev., Austin Brinkerhoff of Sioux City, Jerzi Jo Wingert of Sioux City, and Jack Wingert of Sioux City; siblings Dave (Diann) Jacobson of Sioux City, Kate (Brad) Rohde of Lawton, Iowa, and Mary Taylor of Sioux City; and stepsister Teresa Stevens.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents; brother Steve Jacobson and wife Jeanne; sister Linda Hansen; and nephew Mark Rohde.

Pallbearers will be John Nash, Dustin Kay, Keesha Parker, Kari Grotewold, Norma Fuentes, Josie Sanchez, and Hong Nguyen.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been set up in honor of Barb Wingert so her legacy can live on by helping those in need in the Siouxland Community.
