Moville Mail: Lewis Countryman died at his home in Moville on Monday August 31,1908, after a long illness. The funeral was held yesterday, and the remains were then taken to Rock Branch for intermont. Rev. S. H. Turbeville conducted services in the M. E. church at Rock Branch. Lewis Countryman was born at Cleveland, Ohio, on February 28,1837, and moved with his parents to Evansville, Wis., in 1844, and to Fayette County, Iowa, in 1854, where he was married to Sarah A. Herbert on January 30,1850. His health began to fail in 1860, and in the spring of 1861 he and his wife crossed the plains by team to Marysville, Cal., and in July 1862, they moved to Nevada and the following year purchased from the government the land that is now Reno City. They returned to Iowa in 1865 by steamer from San Francisco, crossed the isthmus and sailed to New York. In 1876 they settled in Ida County, where they remained till 1883, when they moved on a farm east of Moville. Since 1901 the deceased had been in ill health and was unable to perform any kind of business. Besides his widow he leaves four children—Leora, Horace, George and Nellie.
