Janice E. Deuhr, 95, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, April 13, 2021, at The Heritage at Northern Hills.

A private funeral service will be held at St. John Lutheran Church today. A private graveside service will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery on Friday, April 23, 2021. Online condolences can be expressed at www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Janice was born Nov. 3, 1925, in a hospital in Bloomfield, Iowa. She was adopted six days later by James and Josie (Goldsworthy) Baker and was raised in Greeley, Iowa. She graduated from high school in Greeley at the age of 16. In 1943, she moved to Waterloo, Iowa, with her parents where she began working for Iowa Public Service Company (MidAmerican Energy) in the Personnel Office where she met her future husband, LeRoy F. Deuhr, in 1948. On April 9, 1949, they married in Waterloo. To this union, four children were born.

In 1961, the family moved to Sioux City where she was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church. She served on the Altar Guild, a position she enjoyed very much, and in several capacities with the Women's groups. Janice worked in the business office at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center for 13 years. After leaving that position, she volunteered for many years bringing the library cart to the patients and staff. She also volunteered at June E. Nylen Cancer Center.

Janice loved to write; she journaled for over 30 years and wrote special short stories for her grandchildren. She was an avid reader and often borrowed books from the local library. She enjoyed watching sports such as golf and football, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes. Janice had many passions but her family was most important. She was often organizing family get-togethers and hosting Sunday dinners. She also looked forward to decorating sugar cookies every holiday season.

She is survived by her four children LeAnn (Charles) DeVries of Ankeny, Iowa, Sharon Gauslow of North Sioux City, Randy (Jodi) Deuhr of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Barbara (Mark) Nielsen of Sioux City; four grandchildren Jessica Monell of Sioux City, Jason (Alese) Deuhr of Custer, S.D., Melissa (Kris) Kalkofen of Fate, Texas, and Lindsay (Justin) Mays of Guthrie, Okla.; four step-grandsons Michael and Scott Whitlock of Sioux City, and Austin and Dalton Nielsen of Sioux City; nine great-grandchildren Jayme, Jaycob, and Jaycee Smith, Aden, Erik, and Avery Kalkofen, and Taylor, McKenzie, and Andi Mays; and one great-great-grandchild, Jazelia Smith.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband.
