Kristin was born on May 9, 1982, in Sioux City to Wayne and Diane (Sitzman) Salo. She attended St Michael's Elementary School. Kristin graduated with honors from Bishop Heelan High School in 2000. Kristin attended the University of South Dakota and graduated with honors in 2004. She went on to further her education, earning a Master's Degree in education from the University of Sioux Falls.

While attending USD, Kristin met her future husband, Travis Baker. Kristin said "yes" and they married on May 26, 2006, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Sioux City. During their marriage, they enjoyed many adventures. This included seven fun-filled years in Denver, Colo.

Kristin and Travis decided to put down permanent roots in Sioux Falls. At first, Kristin substitute taught and was a liaison for ELL students. For the past two years, Kristin was employed by the Sioux Falls School System as an English teacher for Joe Foss Alternative High School. Kristin loved teaching and loved her students even more. She wanted all of her young adults to be successful.

Kristin was a caring, loving, and extremely giving person. Even in death, these qualities were exemplified by her choosing to be an organ donor. Others may live on due to her selflessness.

Kristin is survived by her husband, Travis; pups, Boris and Burrito; parents, Diane and Wayne Salo; sister, Julie (Martin) Houts; nephew, Carter Houts; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and students.
