Grimes, Iowa, formerly Sioux City

Patricia A. "Patty" Welsh Chesher, 66, of Grimes, formerly of Sioux City, passed away Saturday, April 17, 2021, after a battle with cancer. She spent the last week of her life peacefully, surrounded by her children.

A private family service and burial will be held in Salix, Iowa, at St. Joseph Cemetery.

Patty was born Nov. 9, 1954, in Sioux City, the daughter of Paul and Edna (McKenna) Welsh. She graduated from Heelan High School in 1973 and was a lifelong member of the Catholic faith. She spent much of her career in the healthcare field in Sioux City and Waterloo. She moved to Grimes, after retiring, to be closer to her kids.

She was a proud mom and grandma who loved spending time with her four children and 10 grandchildren. She had a special place in her heart for dogs (Harry, Gertrude, and Buddy), the Chicago Cubs, and all things Ireland. She was a passionate Democrat who loved politics. She enjoyed reading, gardening, and listening to music.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Tara Cisney-Decker and her husband, Rob of Bellevue, Neb., Mike Cisney and his wife, Kate of Ankeny, Iowa, Jackson Chesher of Des Moines, Iowa, and Katie Groth of Sergeant Bluff; 10 grandchildren, McKenna, Caleb, Zachary, Ben, Truman, Alexis, Zoey, JT, Olivia, and Isabella; sister, Susan Neterville; brother, Mike Welsh and his wife, Barb; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother-in-law, Pat Neterville.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to your preferred cancer research organization. Additionally, be kind to others and if you see a dog, tell them they are a good boy or girl – she would have liked that.
