Esther M. Johnson, 100, of Le Mars, formerly of Sioux City, died Jan. 24, 2021.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 17, at Crescent Park United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Online condolences may be directed to meyerbroschapels.com.

Esther was born on March 14, 1920, the daughter of Fred and Hazel (Searcy) Reuschling in Colorado. She came to Sioux City, Iowa, with her family in 1927. She attended Crescent Park Grade School, North Junior and graduated from Central High in 1937.

On Feb. 7, 1942, Esther married Byrnes Johnson at Crescent Park Church in Sioux City. To this marriage came three sons, Allen B. Johnson, Wayne Lee Johnson and Bruce Leland Johnson.

Esther worked at Woolworth's Dime Store, Johnson Biscuit Company and then for 15 years at the IGA Grocery Store in Crescent Park. She also worked at Holy Spirit Retirement Home and volunteered at the D.A.V. - Disabled American Veterans Thrift Store in Riverside for 30 years. She and her husband Byrnes were also custodians at Crescent Park UM Church for several years, caring for the lawn and snow removal as well as cleaning the church.

Esther was a member of American Legion Auxiliary 64, D.A.V. Auxiliary 54 and a member of Crescent Park UM Church for 79 years.

She is survived by her son, Allen Johnson and his wife, Beverly, daughters-in-law, Cindy Johnson, and Bonnie Johnson; six grandchildren, Suzanne and Jeff Bousquet, Lisa and Mark Brazzell, Doug and Julie Johnson, Craig and Nichole Johnson, Jeff Johnson and fianceé, Kelly Towns, and Jeremy and Tammy Johnson; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Byrnes; sons, Bruce Johnson and Wayne Johnson; daughter-in-law, Corrine Johnson; brothers, Frank Reuschling and his wife, Bertie Reuschling, Howard Reuschling and his wife, Dianne Reuschling, and Virgil Reuschling and his wife, Terry Reuschling; granddaughter, Melissa Johnson; and two great-granddaughters, Danielle Brazzell and Lexie Johnson.
