Luella Mae Steinhoff 1925 - 2019

Luella Mae Steinhoff, 94, of Onawa, Iowa, formerly of rural Hornick, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, July 18, 2019, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa.

Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Monday, July 22, 2019, at the Hornick United Methodist Church in Hornick, Iowa, with Pastor Catie Newman officiating. Burial will follow in the Willow Township Cemetery in rural Holly Springs, Iowa.

Visitation will be 9:30 A.M. until service time on Monday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Luella Mae was born on May 4, 1925, in Modale, Iowa, to Louis and Maye (Rank) Koenig. She moved with her family to a farm near Whiting, Iowa, when she was four years old. She graduated from Whiting High School in 1943.

Luella and Wayne Steinhoff were united in marriage on June 25, 1944, in rural Whiting. She was a devoted farm wife and mother to their two children, Susan and Lael.

The couple traveled many thousands of miles together during their marriage throughout the United States, Europe, and Japan, and they spent 42 winters in Texas. In June of 2011, they moved to Premier Estates in Onawa. Wayne preceded Luella in death on September 5, 2011.

Luella was a member of the Hornick United Methodist Church and of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include her children and their spouses, Susan (Harvey) Matthias and Lael (Wanetta) Steinhoff, all of rural Hornick, IA; grandchildren and their spouses, Jeff (Allison) Matthias of Knoxville, IA, and Scott (Lori) Matthias, Brian (Teresa) Steinhoff, and Dana Steinhoff, all of Hornick, IA; great-grandchildren, CJ (Natalie), Gabe, Addi, Abbie, and Cael Matthias, Levi Smith, and Taylor Steinhoff; and two great-great-grandsons, Liam and Lynton Matthias.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Maye (Rank) Koenig; her husband of 67 years, Wayne Steinhoff; three sisters, Ethel Tippens, Thelma Koenig, and Eunice Jones; and one brother, Delbert Koenig.

Memorials in Luella’s memory may be directed to the Hornick United Methodist Church in Hornick, Iowa.
