HORNICK, Iowa - Wm Darrel Smith, 73, of Port Arthur, Texas, and formerly of Hornick, died Tuesday, April 24, 1990, in a hospital in Port Arthur following a long illness.

The body was cremated. Burial will be at a later date at Holly Springs.

Mr. Smith was born June 5, 1916, in Buffalo, Mont, the son of Wm. "Wid" and Pearl Smith. He moved to Hornick in 1918 and graduated from Hornick Consolidated High School in 1933. He married Lyla Richards April 4, 1936. They were divorced in 1960. During his years in Hornick, he operated several businesses. He married Phyllis Warring in 1961 in Granite Falls, Minn. The couple moved to Texas in 1970 where he was employed as a heavy equipment operator in the construction business.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter and her husband, Donna and Myron "Mike" Anderson of Sioux City; two grandchildren, Scott and his wife, Sandy Anderson, and Andrea and her husband, Roy Robinson, all of Sioux City; one great-grandchild, Benjamin Anderson; a brother, Ardell of Grove Springs, Mo, and a sister, Melva Smith of Hornick.
