William "Wid" D. Smith 1887 - 1969

William "Wid" D. Smith, 82, Hornick, died Wednesday at an Onawa, Iowa, hospital after a brief illness.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Hornick Methodist Church. The Rev. Paul Textor officiating. Burial will be in Holly Springs Cemetery under direction of the Wood Funeral Home of Whiting.

Mr. Smith was born April 26, 1887, in Moody County, S.D. He married Pearl Stewart June 26, 1911, at Flandreau, S.D. She died May 2, 1969. He was a custom farm equipment operator and trucker in the Hornick area.

He was a former Hornick city councilman and had served a term on the school board. He was a past noble grand of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows at Hornick and had been a member of the lodge for 50 years.

Survivors include two sons, Darrel of New Richland, Minn. and Ardell of Drayton, N.D., a daughter, Miss Melva Smith of Hornick, a sister, Mrs. Susie Boyd of South Sioux City; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
