DEATH OF MRS. L. BURNS
(Harriett Louisa Kellogg Burns – 19 August 1838 – 27 June 1910)

Resident of Woodbury County Past Thirty-Nine Years

Hornick, Iowa, July 1 - Special- The death of Mrs. Lemuel Burns, living near Hornick, occurred Monday, June 27. She was born at Starksboro, Vt., August 19,1838.

She, with her parents came west to Muscatine, Ia., in 1845., where she grew to womanhood. They then removed to Caledonia, Minn., where she was married to Lemuel Burns, November 13, 1866.

For a time after their marriage, they were residents of Winneshiek County, Iowa. Leaving there they reached Smithland, Woodbury County on the 6th of June 1874. Here they lived for two years, afterwards purchasing their present home, where they have resided continuously for thirty-five years.

They have reared a family of eight children, six sons and two daughters, all whom are living.

The funeral was held Wednesday at noon at the Methodist Episcopal Church in Holly Springs. Rev. Lev, R. M. Kiernan of Hornick. delivered the sermon, paying eloquent tribute to the life of the parted.

Her six sons were the pallbearers, and the remains were interred in the cemetery at Holly Springs.
