Virgil, better known as Ray to his family and friends, was born March 23, 1950 in Creston, Iowa. He graduated from Sioux City’s East High School in 1967 and married Jacqueline (Jackie) Wilkinson, on April 13, 1968. They resided in Sioux City and then Sgt. Bluff, before eventually settling in Sloan.

Virgil was a man of many talents. Whether it was the intricacies of tuning a motor, or delicate stained glass art, he accomplished anything he set his mind to. His passion for the big engines and sleek designs of American muscle cars was something he passed onto his children. From the farm, or his gardens, to the table, Virgil loved food in all its aspects. He could be enticed into a game of chess, in which he almost always won, and Pac-Man was a guilty pleasure. Camping became a favorite pastime. Exploring new places was exciting, but the best part was sitting by a lake, enjoying nature’s beauty. Always ready with a joke, or comment to make you smile, he made friends easily. Big fish stories were not contained to fishing, Virgil had a way of making everything bigger than life. Just like his personality.

He is survived by his wife, Jackie Goodvin; children, Amy Goodvin Mueller, Jeremy Goodvin, and Scott Goodvin; brothers, Bob Goodvin, Larry Goodvin, and sister, Linda Goodvin; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and several relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon Goodvin and Joyce Lee; brother, Bill Goodvin; sister, Joan Swanger; son, Mathew Goodvin and grandson, Garret Goodvin.
