IOWA RESIDENT 56 YEARS DIES

Alverzo A. Bowen, Retired Farmer, Succumbs Here

Death Saturday claimed Alverzo A. Bowen, 85 years old. In his home at 1407 Prescott Street, from infirmities brought on by advanced age. He was a retired farmer.

Mr. Bowen had been a resident of Iowa for 56 years. He was born in New York State September 29, 1844, and when a small child, with his parents, moved to Illinois, but later returned to New York where he lived until he came to Iowa in 1973.

When Mr. Bowen came to Iowa he lived in Oakland and later moved to Smithland where he resided until 1882. In 1920 when he retired from farming, he came to Sioux City where he since had lived.

Mr. Bowen was a member of the Mt Olivet Methodist church of Smithland, the Smithland Masonic lodge and the O. E. A., No. 251.

Surviving Mr. Bowen are: Two daughters, Mrs. Margaret L. Taylor, Westfield, la., and Mrs. Mina F. McInerney of Sioux City and a son, A. F. Bowen of Sioux City. He also is survived by 23 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

The Nelson-Berger funeral home is in charge of funeral arrangements.
