Remsen, Iowa-- Died Sioux City

Carol Lorraine Boever, 83, of Remsen, went to eternal life Sunday, Jan. 17, 2021, at MercyOne in Sioux City.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen, with Father William McCarthy officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Remsen. Keeping to social distancing guidelines at that time, visitation with family present will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday with a vigil prayer service at 5 p.m., all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home. Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen. Carol was born Sept. 20, 1937, to Raymond and Virginia Masuen Schroeder, in Remsen. She attended Union School until the eighth grade, whereupon she attended and graduated from Remsen St. Mary’s. During these years she played with, fought with and loved her brothers Gerald, Daniel, and Loren and her sister, Carine. After graduation in 1955 she attended Briar Cliff College, where she earned her teaching certificate and began teaching first grade in Cherokee, Iowa, for three years.

She married Richard Boever on Aug. 3, 1960, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen. While Dick attended USD, Carol taught first grade in Vermillion, S.D. After moving to Sioux City in 1964, she obtained her B.A. in psychology with a minor in teaching. After substituting in the Sioux City Schools for two years and teaching kindergarten for St. Joseph’s School for two years, she moved to her family farm in 1975 and helped her husband farm and raise their children.

She enjoyed watching her five children grow up and get married and definitely enjoyed her 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Carol also enjoyed being a faithful member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where she was president of the Christian Mothers from 1997 to 2001 and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America. She was parish representative of St. Mary’s for DCCW and also the Church council of DCCW for four years.

Carol also enjoyed fixing up and repainting statues in the tri-state area, Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota. Carol loved attending every game she could for her kids and grandchildren, whether it was baseball, football or volleyball. The consummate fighter, Carol celebrated 50 years of being cancer-free in 2020.

She is survived by her five children, Dan (Kelly) Boever of Springfield, Mo., and their children Jessica (Chad) Yates, Ryker and Ivy, and Justus (Kimmy); Doug Boever of Remsen, Iowa, and Cindy Molzen and their children Hayley (Tim) Miner and Wallace, Andrea (Will) Dole and Loralai, Owen, Calvin and Juna, and Blair (Justin) Lansink; Diann (Mike) Parcelli of Des Plaines, Ill., and their children Tony (Samantha), Vincent and Dominic; David (Denise) Boever of Bellevue, Neb., and their children Lauren and Ryan; and Dawn (Randy) Hicklin of Sioux City and their children Riley, Joseph, Jillian, Carly and Melissa, Josh and Kayla; one sister, Carine Schroeder of Doon, Iowa; one brother, Loren (Debbie) Schroeder of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one sister-in- law, Marian Schroeder of Winner, S.D.; and numerous in-laws.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; parents, Ray and Virginia Schroeder; brothers, Jerry and Daniel; brother-in-law, Eugene Schroeder; father and mother-in-law, John and Geraldine Boever; and numerous in-laws.

Casket bearers will be Ryan Boever, Vincent and Dominic Parcelli, Joseph Hicklin and Justus Boever.

May her soul and all the souls of the faithful departed, rest in peace, Amen. Please remember her in your prayers.
